Possible ignition switch

When turn on key and start car I lose dashlights except for indicator lights/warnings, lose speedometer, and lose taillights. Brake lights still work and hav headlights. When I turn off car and even take key out, THEN dashlights come on and stay on as well as parking lights. Have to unhook battery so lights go off and don't drain battery.
Could be, could be something else. Finding the problem would require a wiring diagram and a test meter. I would suggest taking it to a local independent mechanic. Also do some online research on the problem to see if other people have had similar occurrences.
