Eventually I will just be driving around with my foot on the brakes and don't
even have to give it gas for slow speeds downtown (25-30mph). After the
engine is warm, when I stop and put it in Park, the engine revs up to about
2.5k rpm, which keeps me from being able to put it back into gear until the car
cools down again in a few hours. Any ideas?

May be something as simple as a vacuum leak. Computer/oxygen sensor see the extra oxygen from the vacuum leak and thinks the exhaust is running too lean, so it boosts idle (extra fuel) to compensate. Go through the vacuum hoses, sometimes you can hear the leak as a hissing. PCV and EGR hoses especially.
