Drive Cycle with Check Engine Light on?

Question type: General

Can my car run a drive cycle with the check engine light on?

I have a 2000 Ford Escort zx2 that I've recently disconnected and
reconnected the battery, clearing the history so to speak for the emissions.
I need to run through a drive cycle to be able to get my car emissions
tested but the check engine light is on.  After driving 150 miles, the car still
hasn't gone through the drive cycle, will it not go through if the check
engine light is on?????

p0117 - low voltage regarding the ect sensor, supposed to be because the engine is hot; however, I am 95% sure the ect sensor is bad and am in the process of replacing it (waiting for part). p1000 - drive cycle not complete

Thanks Jim, I replaced the ECT sensor again (I had already done it a few weeks ago) after hooking it up to a scan tool and seeing it was registering the coolant temp at 300+F when it was nowhere near that temp. Once I put the new sensor in, I cleared the codes and haven't had the light come on yet. Thanks again
