Have a 2002 Civic it over heats. Replaced thermostat. Still over heats. Both fans work, but only if ac button is on.

Check to see if the water pump is working? it could have a few broken impellers and is not moving enough water. Your radiator may be clogged and will need to be flushed with a flushing chemical. The radiator fins could be clogged with debris and should be washed with a good cleaner. Are the fans coming on when the car reaches temp? about 195 to 220 degrees. Check the radiator cap, you may also have a clogged vent tube..
