2002 HONDA CIVIC 1.7 L THERMOSTAT AND HOSES ; FANS WORK ONLY WHEN AC IS TURNED ON .

my 2002 Honda Civic 1.7L is having issues with the cooling system , I think . The
fans won't turn on unless the AC is turned on and the hose that is connected to
my Thermostat gets really HOT BUT THE HOSE UNDERNEATH THE
THERMOSTAT stays cool . What does that mean ?  The gauge doesn't rise up it
just stays in the middle . What do I do?

The top radiator hose that runs to the thermostat does get hot. The lower radiator hose is cool as that is the cool coolant going into the engine. I'm not too sure on the fans, but it sounds like they work. When you have it on AC the fans are probably on high. Without the AC the fans could turn more slowly. Just pay attention to what the fans are doing to see if there is a problem or not. A good sign is that the engine is not over-heating, and sounds like the temperature gauge is normal. Everything may be fine, just watch what it does.
