rod bearing/engine replacement

So recently my outback had a sudden pop that led to a harsh metal on metal
scraping sound and now when I drive, coast, and am moving in neutral. I cant
really drive it past 20 mph. I got it checked out by a guy who works specifically
on subarus and he said they think its the main or rod bearing but he didnt go
deep enough to fully confirm that. ive been quoted by a few other mechanics
around $3000-3500 to replace, or rebuild the engine. others recommend I just
sell it for parts to a mechanic shop or junk yard and buy another car. it
currently has 116,000 miles and was running great till this happened. what is
the best course of action here? should I sell it as is for as much as possible, or
fix it with a replacement engine, or have someone rebuild it? I heard its very
hard and lengthy to get parts right now from japan.

If you sold it you would loose a ton of money. Then have to overpay for another vehicle due to demand. Fix it proper if you like the vehicle. Rebuild or replace the engine, whatever is cheaper and or quicker getting it back on the road.
