Subaru Engine Replacement

Asked by GuruTBK2Y Jun 25, 2018 at 05:27 PM about the 2005 Subaru Outback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback. The tow truck drivers this the engine oil
ran dry and blew the engine somehow despite being cleared in great shape and
no oil leak.
What are my options for engine replacement?

No oil = blown up engine. 100% of the time. You could install a new or used engine if you think the car is worth it.

2005 is the tricky year, as it uses an emissions system that's unique, having 5 O2 sensors. So you have to ensure that the ECM matches correctly...and maybe harnesses too. In 2006-2009 a simplified emissions system debuted with the VVT cam setup. Be careful.
