Air Conditioner- Fog coming out of vents, smells like mold or wet clothes

Asked by BrandonMcLeod Aug 27, 2018 at 11:02 AM about the 2016 Ford F-150 Platinum SuperCrew LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2016 F-150 3.5 Eco, on a recent camping trip the vehicle began blowing fog out of the air conditioning vents.  Fast forward a couple of weeks, I took a sharp left hand turn and I could hear what sounded like water in the air conditioning system.  A few days later this smell of mold or wet clothing started blowing through the system.  I took it to Ford and of course they can't reproduce anything and therefore won't fix anything.  The smell is there for sure so I am not sure why they can's "reproduce" the symptoms...thoughts?

1.) Check the level of the radiator coolant and make sure it is not dropping. If there is a leak in the heater core it could account for the smell, but the aroma is usually a sweet smell. You could also find the carpet under the core is damp or wet. 2.) Depending on the humidity in the location where you were camping, The cold air mixing with hot humid air could produce the fog effect. Run the AC on recirculation mode as to not pull in outside humid air into the cabin and see if it stops. 3.) If you continue to hear sloshing water sounds in the dash, you obviously have an intrusion issue. Did it rain before you noticed the sound. If the smell is there at all times, and is obvious, demand the dealership finds and fixes the problem under warranty. Before the warranty runs out.
