Car stops accelerating while driving

Asked by kelleyjudith3 Jun 20, 2023 at 11:18 PM about the 2016 Hyundai Elantra Value Edition FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving these signs popped up & car stop
accelerating, the gas pedal seemed easier to
press on but nothing was happening! Luckily the
brakes were just fine & i was able to pull over. I
turned the car off then started it again, the signs
were gone & pressed the gas pedal & everything
was good until i was just about home the same
thing happened! So i again turned the car off
then started it back up & was able to get home.
I do have a scanner & nothing showed up. I
checked my oil & it is a little low so obviously i
will get more in there! I really know next to
nothing about cars so was hoping someone
could give me opinions on why this is
happening & point me in the right direction!
Thanks!

Read your owners manual for an explanation of all this. The bottom light is the immobilizer, it's put the car in Limp Mode. You can drive short distances at limited speed. The others are the CEL, oil, and charging system. See a mechanic to find out what initiated all this..... If you know little about cars, why do you have a code scanner. It's likely so poor, it's worthless.

This sounds like a failing oil pump, it will make pressure fine for a while then it just quits working and the light come on. You may have already damaged the engine by resuming the drive. Have it towed to your favorite shop and get it checked out.
