Engine cut off while driving

Asked by Primetom32 Nov 12, 2018 at 07:21 PM about the 2016 Ford Fusion S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ford 2016 fushion
While driving on interstate, engines cut off and message “transmission not in
park” came up. Was able to pull to side of road but nothing worked ( hazards
would not even come on). Put it in park and restarted and got home safely.
What to do?

Hi - ours just did this today. Have you gotten any answers yet? How many miles? I’m at 145k. By chance was your check engine light on or has it been on?

I think people are not replying because there is not an answer. I took my car to the dealership, and they found nothing wrong. All recalls on my vehicle have already been repaired. I do know it is not related to any recalls. I am not sure how reassuring it is, but reading through the forums, most people's incidents have been isolated.

My wife was just driving our 2016 ford fusion SE awd ecoboost and a weird alarm sound started going off inside the car and the car started chugging and the car shut down. It wouldn't turn over a few times than she finally got it to turn over and start. Did anyone else have this problem or heard of it and by chance know what it is?

My daughter 16’ Fusion Titanium has done this 3 times. Has 65,000 miles on it. Had a mechanic check the codes out and nothing registers. Her FUEL ACCESSORY POWER ACTIVE light comes on just before it shuts off. Takes a second but restarts. Any help is appreciated. Its alarming to know that there are many others having the same issue with little to no answers.

ANYONE LOOKING FOR AND ANSWER STOP HERE, before you waste anymore money get a certified mechanic to check your fuel pressure off of the valve when you crank your car, low fuel pressure can cause all of these issues y’all stated

Same. 2016 Ford Fusion has it for a year now. 87k miles has been doing this about 4 months now. It’s cold out and it’s been not wanting to start easily either. It finally did not start tonight omw to work. Crank sound then sound like a fizzle air and the engine and wrench light come on. I’m gonna you tube some things and look in the am. If not, I guess I gotta get a mobile mechanic. Hopefully it’s an easy fix.

2014 Ford Fusion SE same thing turn off while I’m driving spend already a lot of money change the battery the park plugs oil pump and still doing the same anyone fix the issue here or ideas what could be thanks for your help

2016 Ford Fusion SE 2.5. My wife has experienced it dying on the interstate multiple times; same thing as you guys, "transmission not in park light". It always cranks right back up. I finally had it happen to me while I was headed to work this morning. I was doing 60 mph when it happened. I was able to crank it right back up while still in sport mode and I made it to work fine. It is not a fuel pump issue because all the interior lights turn off as if you turned the key off. It has to be something electrical, either with the main PCM or the ignition switch for something like that to happen. You are all wasting your time with changing fuel pumps and what-not. I've been a mechanic a long time. It's definitely a short in one of the control modules and/or ignition switch.
