Battery guage is pointing cl9se to 9

Asked by Samsmom3 Mar 16, 2021 at 06:21 PM about the 1994 GMC Sonoma 2 Dr SLE Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery light came on while idling
at a train crossing. Guage
registers close to 9 but not quite
in the red. About a week ago, the
battery drug (acted as if it were
dead) when trying to start it. It
eventually started without a jump.
Is this a battery issue, or
alternator?

I think the alternator is dead. The battery may also need replacement. Test both of them. Your gauge should read between 13.5 and 14.5 while the engine is running.

Thanks. :-) That's what I thought, but just needed confirmation. It did start back up, but since I was home, I didn't want to chance getting stranded, so here i. I just hate car trouble.
