Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 15 dart got 2.4l and have paid the
dealership twice for them to do a oil
consumption test. And both times I have
been told that it’s normal for that engine ??
So I had them do an oil change and drive it
for (1) week and check oil I was there for the
findings. The car had 459miles on fresh oil
but car only had HALF a  quart of oil in the
engine ? But that’s normal they said, an I had
to pay for the top off of new oil?? So answer
this one

The limit is 1 quart in 600 miles, if it's using more than that and it sounds like it is it's time for some engine work. That kind of oil consumption is not normal. Soon it's going to start having O2 sensor codes and catalyst failures. I take it that there is still some kind of warranty and they don't want to fix it under warranty.

I’m am a silver ASE certified auto mechanic. There is no value stem seals leaking. No compression lose so no oil bypass. Car has external leaks of any kind. Throttle body is clean and bone dry. But I’m still at a loss for words hearing the service manager of walker Jones Chevy/dodge dealership say that crysler/ Mopar says that kind of oil consumption is acceptable and normal for the 2.4L engines So 4.5qt of oil loss is okie dokie. Normal????
