brake warning light stays on

Start by checking brake fluid. The type of fluid will be on the cap if it's too low. The low fluid level sensor can turn that light on. Along with low fluid, bad wheel speed sensors and ABS ECUs can also turn the brake light on. Don't rule out a parking brake sensor also.
