RPMS not going over 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello there. Approximately 6 months ago I
purchased a 2014 Nissan Sentra SR...about 2
weeks ago, I was on a trip, and after about 3 hours
of running/driving, I came to a stop sign, and the
car didn't turn off, it just seemed like for several
minutes, the car wouldn't accelerate or go above
1500RPM. I finally took my foot off the gas pedal
and tried to accelerate again and then it
accelerated just fine. Since I had no more
problems during my trip, I figured maybe it was
something the car did automatically to save on
fuel since I had less than 1/4 tank. However, the
last 4 days I've had the same problem getting it to
accelerate for a few moments. It doesn't have any
problems starting. Any ideas what it could be?

That car has a throttle by wire set up, and you have 1 of 2 issues... first, you could have a lose ground for the throttle body second (and most likely) you have a failing throttle body. However both of these issues aren't usual present, unless the car has over 100K miles... Have you visited your local dealer for a diagnosis yet?

I have not visited the dealer yet. Closest dealer is 100 miles away, and the dealer I got it from is approx 200 miles away. I wanted to get some ideas before going that far

Do you have a check engine light on? Has anyone worked on the intake of your car?

and based on the temperamental nature of the problem, the drive-by-wire throttle body seems to be the problem.

No lights have come on, and since buying the car, I've only had a row rotation and oil change (per the maintenance manual). Is the drive-by-wire throttle body a big/expensive job?

It's fairly easy to replace yourself, but the car should be covered under the manufacturer's warrantee, unless you reached your mileage limit for the year.

It's just over 23,000 miles. I think it should still be covered. Thanks for all your help!

I had the same behavior with a Nissan Versa 2015 with 26k miles. It did not go over 1500 revs. I scanned it and it had these codes: U1000: Poor harness ground connection. Battery loose. C1735: CAN communication Faulty Body Control Module (BCM) Faulty Ignition Switch BCM/Ignition Switch harness is open or shorted BCM/Ignition Switch circuit poor electrical connection I took it to be checked and the problem was that the ground was not doing a good contact with the chassis. After correcting that, the car is going well.
