Rattle on start up

2 Answers

More details - occasionally it rattles when starting. Oil level is good. 58,000 miles on the engine. Bosch oil filter. When it rattles it sounds like it is out of oil.

The starter bolts might be loose, but if the rattle is internal to the engine, it may mean oil is not getting around quick enough on start up (too thick). If it's worse in cold weather start up, you need to use maybe synthetic 5w-20 grade (thin). If the oil grade is really the problem, you will notice less clatter when the engine is started up already warm.
