Why is my rear suspension squeaking/sound loose

Asked by Tameara Jul 02, 2019 at 04:27 PM about the 2003 GMC Envoy 4 Dr SLE 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the upper control arms earlier this
year so those aren't the issue. And just
yesterday I replaced rear shocks, rotors, and
pads. All impact tight except calipers/pads,
they are ratchet tight. While driving after the
work something sounded loose. I had my bf
double check tightness this morning and
that is not the issue. Could the newer parts
have caused strain on something else? Do I
need to grease something? All parts went
on dry (ungreased). What do you guys think?

FIrst problem I spot is impact tight. Need to torque to specification, too tight can cause squeaking, too loose can cause squeaking or knocking. You mention the rear, but only talked about the front control arms and rear shocks. Only thing in the rear that would squeak would be the swaybar links, nothing else. Up front, there's a lot that will squeak. Ball joints, upper, and lower. Upper and lower control arms. Swaybar bushings, and styrofoam inside of bumper. When you replaced the upper control arm, did you replace the ball joint too that presses into the control arm? If so, was it a greasable ball joint that has a Zirc fitting?

*****Forgot the rear swaybar bushings, those could squeak as well as the link.
