I had the same thing come up, the light goes on and off. it is nothing wrong with it , just the EVAP valve probably, it doesn't harm your vehicle and it will pass inspection unless you leave in Calif or DC

Just had this happen to me tonight. I turned the car off and then turned it back on and the message was gone. What does this mean?

Ours turned out to be a wire short and a fuel valve sensor . Cost us about $360 at a Ford dealership . But I think the fault message is just a general message to tell you to take the car in and checked for a fault code .

Also , our Escape ran fine the entire time , but after we started the engine and ran it for a few mins that message would pop up every time . They had to hook it to a computer to find the code .
