1987 f150 steering peoblem

Asked by mudman50 Mar 23, 2016 at 07:41 PM about the 1987 Ford F-150 STD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

87 f150 power steering turns hard to the right but easy to the left. belts, fluid
and linkages are all ok. It's a 6 cyl. and a standard gear box. I jacked it up with
the wheels off the ground and it works fine. As I put more weight on the front
tires is when it starts turning hard, but only to the right.

Sounds like you have a sticking valve in the rack and pinion. Try add some Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak into power steering pump. It not only stops leaks but also helps hard steering by helping unstick valves.
