engine dying

Asked by Lori Apr 08, 2016 at 12:53 AM about the 1986 Ford F-150 STD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When we got our 1986 f150 a month ago,
men were checking it out under the hood.
Now the engine dies at red lights and stop
signs. Could my idle be off? Where does it
need to be set?

oh dear- never a good sign when men are checking it out under the hood- I would rather have women check it out- they would know enough to leave it alone-

Seriously, that is an old truck- it could be anything- if it has a carb, you MIGHT be able to set the idle- if the carb isn't so old it needs to be rebuilt-
