1978 chevy 350 keeps stalling when put in gear

Asked by Jake Mar 29, 2020 at 09:19 AM about the 1978 Chevrolet C/K 10 Scottsdale

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I don't know if you can help me out but here it
goes. I have my grandfather's 1978 Chevy c10
Scottsdale that won't stay running when I put it in
gear. I have replaced transmission modulator cam
and lifters (because the cam was bad in it)
distributor, plugs and wires, fuel pump, vacuum
lines all brand new, pcv, carb, and timing chain and
gears. It idles great with plenty of power the
second I put the turbo 350 in gear it dies. If I keep
my foot on the gas it will stay running but it is very
rough. Had a professional look at it and he is lost.

Are you sure all your vacuum lines all right and that they're all there my brother has similar problem had a mechanic work on it for 3 days but I told him it sounded like air when it was idling and he would rev it up turned out that's all it was one of the hoses somewhere it didn't get hooked up or I came loose he found it n reattached it and it ran great afterwards

Yes double and triple checked all my lines went through them one at a time made sure they were all hooked up. Would a blown head gasket cause it to idle fine but when under load die? Just so you know it doesn't over heat or loose fluid. I have also checked compression on all cylinders they are all reading between. 150 and 160. No plugs are fouled out no misfire

It did over heat one time when the cam went out sorry I forgot about that
