I left my key in the ignitation over night. Now my car won't start. The battery is fine. When I turn the key nothing comes on.

I'm confused. I had a 2011 MX-5 Grand Touring with Power Hardtop and I never had to insert the key into the ignition. I wasn't push button start, but all I needed were to have the key fob inside the car and just turn the knob on the steering column to start the car. I believe that they key inside the fob is ONLY needed if the battery in the key fob completely dies (If memory serves...Haven't owned or driven that car for about a year).

They made 2 different types of keys depending on options the switch blade and the keyless fob. it is possible the battery in the key itself is dead.
