Mazda MX5 – Cant turn the key in the ignition

Asked by jennaskolj Sep 21, 2010 at 11:15 AM about the Mazda MX-5 Miata

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

HI any and all help would be appreciated! I have Mazda MX-5, “J” reg Automatic; I’ve recently replaced the alternator, springs battery, ect and it was working beautifully for the last 4 weeks (after being not being sued for about 6 months), then this morning I go to turn the key into the ignition and it wont move (stuck in the lock position).

I’ve tried taking it out of park and slipping it back in (there was some resistance at first moving it out of gear but with some minor bashing it moved out of Park) – nothing.

Everything else is okay – lights and alarm still on.

Not sure what else to do – could it be a blown fuse??? Or is it just not engaging Park?? If so how do I fix that?!
