water usage

Asked by Christine Mar 26, 2016 at 01:02 PM about the 1988 Ford Escort 2 Dr EXP Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My escort has started using water which produces a lot of white smoke. Also there is a  smell of evaporating water. However  there is no sign of water in the engine, nothing on the dip stick or in the top. Plus the amount of oil in the engine has not gone up or down. She has however started to be very rough on start up, then she settles down. I or anyone else seems not to know why.HELP

You have a blown head gasket, sounds like the engine is drawing water into one or more cylinders and pushing the coolant out through the exhaust. Check your exhaust pipe at the outlet end and check if it seems wet like water has been coming out of the exhaust the white smoke is your coolant being pushed out through the exhaust system. More you drive the more damage your causing.
