Exhaust length

Hi I live in NJ and I drive a modified ford escape. I
want to further mod it by shortening the exhaust
does anyone know if NJ has a length requirement.  
I have looked online and cannot find anything.

I want to shorten the resonator pipe so I can run the muffler out the passenger side under the rear door

Ok thanks I wasn't sure. Everything I seen said you can't remove any emissions components but didn't say anything about rerouting or shortening
