Rerouting Ignition Coil/Spark Plug Wires Can Solve Misfire/Surge Problems on Dodge Dakota : http://repairpal.com/rerouting-ignition-coilspark-plug-wires-can-solve-misfiresurge-problems-272 - also make sure the coil is good, no cracks (especially along the underside) that can let moisture in and cause the random misfire.

It might be the coil pack for the firing mechanism you can find it close to your distributor cap

Check engine light is on I'm starting to think it is the ecm I forgot to mention I put a ignition coil on it but i put JE pistons in my truck didn't even change the compression ratio so I know it isn't a compression problem

Auto parts store like advanced auto or auto zone will read the code for you at no charge.

it could be the cam shaft sensor, or you could be loosing compression from a vacuum leak.
