Will a bad belt cause my 99 Durango SLT to run rough and drop my fuel to 5 mpg?

Asked by BrianJoe Feb 18, 2017 at 11:33 AM about the 1999 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 99 Durango 5.2 SLT 4 X 4 suddenly started running really rough, bogs in the higher gears, and my mpg has dropped to only 5mpg. My AC compressor locked up and chewed off 1/3rd of the belt. I replaced the AC with a pulley bracket. I have yet to replace the belt.

No, every thing is spinning now, if the check engine light is on have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. Write them down so you can repair what is wrong or need further assistance.

Scan for codes. Before buying parts. Check electrical connections, tune up parts and listen and/or look for vacuum leaks ect..
