yeah most likely it could be your gear mechanism that puts the headlight up sometimes the teeth come off the gear cuz they're plastic and then it doesn't work anymore or halfway works so most likely have to replace the mechanism that opens the headlight or you might be lucky and it's just a motor but you have to open up that headlight area and take a look at the gears and The Motor see if it's got power I just be burned out good luck

Thing that has me on the ropes about the gear and or motor is when I turn on the head lights and and crank both side open then turn them off the motor puts them down with no gear grinding sound.

When is probably your motor then if the gearing is okay cuz it probably doesn't have enough power winding and in the motor to go ahead and push it back up but I could let it down you know

The gears are stripped. There are kits on the market that will fix this fairly cheap if you want to do the work (about a half hour per motor). One company that sells them is Top Down Solutions. The guy's name is Drew and he is extremely helpful. Contact is: top-downsolutions.com
