engine will not start

Asked by GuruR72X May 09, 2017 at 01:27 AM about the 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I have a 1985 Trans am. This car was converted to right hand drive in
Australia, not a good job, all the electric behind the dash was horrible.
Many things I've fixed. Three weeks ago I started the engine and it fired up
first time. I then put all the covers on finished every thing. Now the car does
not start anymore. After an unsuccessful start attempt, I turned the key
back to off, then I could hear three  times beep-beep.   I checked the fuel
line and pump, both are ok. I assume this signal indicates a fault and would
like to know what it is.
The repair manual I bought from Haynes is not very clear on the electrical
side.

It Could be as simple as the ignition lock cylinder being worn out and going into the wrong position?

But additionally it looks like you had a lot of electrical work underneath the dash moving everything over so I would double check all the wiring to make sure you have good connections and everything's grounded but it could be your ignition switch double check everything and try to start it as you play with each wire stuff like that you know test things good luck!
