Engine says hot/ac off

Asked by Hmq Mar 19, 2020 at 02:36 PM about the 2013 Chevrolet Impala LT FWD

Question type: General

Tuesday the car was saying engine hot ac off but I
see no smoke coming from my hood and the arrow
was on C for cold was not going up .. as we came
home the fan was still on took 2 mins to stop.. we
changed a hose then it was working for a day
again went back to the same thing now we change
the thermostat  and it went up to Hot turn engine
off for over heating .. Do you think we didn't put the
thermostat on right ? Or could it be something else
? Like the radiator .. like I said the fan keeps going

Pull the thermostat and validate it is in the correct position. otherwise, it will restrict the flow of coolant and cause overheating. Your cooling fans will continue to run until the engine temp falls below a preset temp. Not sure why your temp gauge was not reading above the "C" but recheck after you have validated the thermostat direction.

Sounds like the coolant temperature sensor is unplugged. When this happens the computer will not receive a signal from the sensor and will default to an overheating condition so that the engine is not damaged. This will cause all the symptoms you are describing! Hope that helps! Jim
