How to safely remove rust stains from Corvette Clearcoat w/o damaging Clearcoat?

While in storage for winter, some rusty water dripped on and penetrated my cover.  When cover removed there are rust stains that dried on surface of paint.  They do not simply wash off with soap/water and rubbing with usual soft washing mitt.  I am sure this is not an unusual type of surface stain for autos.  What is the well-accepted product or technique for removing the rust stain w/o scratching or damaging the clearcoat?

If I owned such a nice car with this sort of issue I might would contact a high end detail shop for suggestions. Also might want to check with your insurance company. They might have some thing on your policy that will help you out with this sort of issue. Not sure tho I have never had the opportunity to own such a nice vehicle.

A detailer or auto body shop are a good start. I would first rewet the stain with water and keep it wet with a saturated cloth or towel for 48 hours to hopefully dissolve the stain.Do not rub with anything abrasive, as that will scratch the clear coat permanently. If the rust oxides have bonded with the clear coat there will be no way to lift it.
