I'm having the same problem with my 2011 Kia Soul. It has now died several times while I have been driving, almost exclusively when in neutral (it's a manual), i.e. when I'm going down a hill or on an off-ramp. It usually starts right back up, but the tachometer doesn't work, and it doesn't drive properly, it sputters and has trouble accelerating. When I turn the car off and turn it back on, everything works again. Any thoughts on what could be causing it?

Yes it was the crankshaft sensor . I replaced that and it worked but they said it could also have been the camshaft sensor. Hope that helps .

Googling this was so helpful!! My 2013 Kia Rio was doing the same thing. It died twice while driving and once idling. I was able to restart it. I took it to a shop and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I told them it could be the crankshaft sensor but they didn’t want to do it if unnecessary. Then the same day, I had trouble starting it, the rpm went to 0 and the engine light came on. I took it back and it registered as the crankshaft sensor needing replaced. Bingo! Google searches DO work.
