getting a 420 and a 1296 code on my 2001 Durango what do they mean?

after running a bit it loses power and won't stay running and is hard to restart is at all.  
Tried the ignition trick to pull up codes and got a P0420 and a P1296. What's up?

P0420 - Catalyst Sys Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) P1296 - bad Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
