When you changed the filter, what did the fluid look like? Any metal pieces in the bottom of the pan? The whining noise is not a good sign. This could be the pump that has worn out. I've had a few transmissions do this. The pump is essentially 2 gears that mesh together and "pump" the fluid. They wear out over time, or the housing wears out. If this is the case, it's rebuild time..
