2001 Dodge Dakota 4.7

Asked by GuruSS9V Apr 17, 2017 at 11:51 PM about the 2001 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This pickup has 243,000 miles no major repairs
until now..#2 valve seat went out so I removed
both heads to get them redone, installed new
timing chains with tensioners and guides along
with new lifters (yes I let new ones soak for at least
12 hours before installing).. Got everything done
engine has run beautiful every since except about
50 miles ago it started to tick on startup but it
goes away within 20 seconds.... Is there anything I
should done or can do before it gets worse??

Like TM says, put in a high volume oil pump. And ticking is common in a lot of engines at start-up.

AskTrannyMan.....I use Pennzoil 5w-30 with Lucas motor stabilizer always have had oil changed right at 2500 miles very few and rare occasions did it ever hit 3000 on oil change. I did not put in a new oil pump cause the book I had said that basically the whole front end would have to be removed in order to get the oil pan off...I had just a limited time to get this project done otherwise I would've done it.
