Got a Problem with 2002 Dodge Durango

Asked by Marisa May 26, 2014 at 09:41 PM about the 2002 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It has 158,000 on it and few days ago it started making a thumping noise on front driver side. Come to find out It was in 4wd on dry roads. Well the thumping didn't stop and if you run over 45mph it starts swaying with you. The wheel bearing, drive shaft and axel are fine. Any ideas what's wrong?

Hard to say unless trying to drive it my self, take it to a shop you trust and have them check it out, could be several things like tierod ends, bushings, wheel bearings, balljoints or brakes or even something has gone bad inside the front dif or the t- case since it was driven in 4wd on dry dry roads, but hard to say with out checking it out.

Sounds like bad shock or possibly bump stop on upper a-arm assembly missing. I have had both problems, with same symptoms. Old bump stops dry rot and break. New ones are rubber or composite.
