Radiator loosing fluid

About 2 weeks ago my
caravan suddenly overheated
and was low on coolant and I
have had to add water to it
daily since then. I replaced
the radiator cap bit it didn't fix
the problem. What could be
the issue?!

First, Are there any codes? Check engine light on? If not then, If you want to fix it yourself you have to go to Oreilly's or Napa and pick up a Cooling System Pressure Tester Kit. When the engine is cool you remove the radiator cap and pressure test the system until it reaches the pressure listed on the radiator caps "Maximum Pressure". Usually around 10 to 16 lbs. Wait 5 minutes and look for the pressure to be dropping. If it is dropping, start looking for the leak. If you don't see the leak then keep pumping it back up to max pressure. Do this 3 times while continuing to look for the leak. I have done this before and found no real leaks. Seems impossible but... stop, top off the coolant, reinstall the cap tightly and, Step 2) Determine if the cooling fans work. If you don't have a code scanner to read live data this is easier to do at a shop. Hook up the scanner and go to live data to read engine coolant temperature. Start the engine and wait until it reaches over 210. Briefly, 15 seconds, turn on the a/c. The engine cooling fans should come on and the A/C compressor clutch should engage, turning the A/C compressor. That was to test the fans and their circuit. Shut the A/c and heat completely off and wait for the engine temp to start rising again. The engine cooling fans should come on around 215 but I have had a couple in the past that reached 222 degrees before turning on. IF THEY DON'T COME ON BY 225 DEGREES, turn the A/C on so the fans will turn on and bring the engine temperature down. You must now diagnose the electrical circuit of the (engine coolant fan) circuit. This is a separate circuit from the A/C fan circuit, even though it runs the same fans. 1) Check all fuses. 2) swap the A/C fan relay with the Eng Cooling Fan relay and try again. 3) If the fans never came on you must test them to see if they are not frozen or burnt out. I forgot to mention. Somewhere between 190 and 200 degrees the thermostat should open and the temperature will drop back to 175-185 or so. This would be normal as the cold coolant in the radiator just mixed with the warmer engine coolant and it now has to warm up that coolant too. Both radiator hoses should get hot. If only the upper or only the lower is hot when you reach 210 then the thermostat is not opening. Replace with a factory temperature, usually 195 degrees, thermostat. Refill and retest. Dale
