issue with startung

04 dodge stratus 3.0 rt coupe.. Turn car off
wouldnt start all ligtts are on would turn over for
a few seconds then click battery reads 12.6 when
running it read 14.1 now it wouldnt start with a
jump so we hit the starter and it fired up however
when driving it home it tried to stall ( has new
battery and altenator ) so now when went to start
it fired right up. Shut it off it doesnt want to
start it makes a grinding noise. After waiting a
while its started again with a grinding noise and
then it was running rough and shut off.. I don't
want to by a starter if that's not going to fix it. I
cant afford it but will get it if i have to

Sure sounds like some of your problem is in the starter, You can take it off and have it load tested to see if it is good. Running rough, I think I would just look at the starter first. On the charging, I have ben involved with many conversations on what that alternator should read at the battery. To me it should read 14.5 at least, but the consensus is that even at 14.1 volts, the charging system is still working properly. 12.6 Volts on the battery is good, charged all the way up.
