1986 dodge ram, hard to start

ok so I have a 1986 dodge ram pickup truck
and it won't start without starting fluid. I
tried the thing about turning the key and
letting it pump gas but it doesn't work with
my manual fuel pump. I tried adjusting the
choke and that got me to where I'm at now.
it didn't run before I did that and now when
you get it going it runs good but now it won't
start without starting fluid like I said, it just
won't catch a spark

I haven't got an answer yet but I ordered a new electronic fuel pump and I'm going to try that and see what happens
