My 05 neon sxt wont go into first when warmed up

Asked by MKBsxt05 Aug 13, 2015 at 11:15 AM about the 2005 Dodge Neon SXT Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When everything is cold it goes right into gear. When it is warmed up it can take as long as 30 seconds to go into 1st and sometimes it feels like its going into second instead. As long as I don't cut the car off it will shift as many times into drive as I want it to with no problem. What can cause this?

Sounds like the transmission filter is getting clogged. Have transmission fluid and filter changed.

Sorry to say its either that or the transmission is about to go south because right now it sounds like the fluid is trying to force its way through the filter.
