2005 Dodge Durango testing your Alternator

Asked by Sparky12345 Jan 27, 2016 at 10:42 AM about the 2005 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When the vehicle is running the batteries it's pulling 14 amps. Then I tested the alternator it's pulling 14 amps too. But when I pull off the positive or negative wire doesn't matter the vehicle shuts off. Not sure what's going on it should stay running right??? I did put in a new alternator same thing going on..

Not a good idea to be pulling the cables off the batter when it is running. You could blow something. Battery voltage should be 12.7 DCV when fully charged. The alternator should be putting out 14.5-14.7 DCV when working properly.
