Dodge 05 5.7hemi automatic, will not move unless the rpms are over 2000

Asked by TommyG89 Dec 03, 2013 at 11:16 AM about the 2005 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I got an 05 Durango automatic. It was running just fine then we did not move the car
over the weekend and when I tried starting it on Monday it would not move unless the
rpms were 2000-2500. It will go into reverse and then back to drive but unless you
really step on it it wont move. Even then it will jerk and then move slowly, it feels like it
is pulling  bad. Any idea what it could be? I am thinking it is tranny related but I am
hoping it is something that will not cost a fortune?

just an idea but check the rear brake emergency shoe linings inside the rear disc rotor. Have seen them randomly fall apart and cause as you described. plus it's free to check it out, hope this helps.

could be a stuck handbrake. If it is cold they can freeze stuck, depends on where you are.

Did you check if the handbrake line moves where it connects to the brakes at the wheel ? If it does not move it is stuck. You might need to take the brakes apart and then put the handbrake on and off to see if it stuck or not. If you don´t see any movement when you put the handbrake on or off it is stuck and you need to fix that.

I found out the codes are P0842 and P0700 first is a tranny fluid sensor second is a general tranny malfunction. DURANGO before this never had to go over 1500-1800 rpms. It started again a couple days ago but it is still draggin bad

Looks like a tranny rebuild, they need service on time or else they will go bad, take it to a tranny shop you trust and let them take a look at it.

Sounds like it is low on fluid or the filter in the bottom of the transmission pan is half stopped up
