Screeching Noise while driving and idle.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer V8 Eddie Bauer the car
makes a screeching squiling noise when I start it
and when I accelerate. I checked the idler pully and
it seemed ok but the loud noise seems to be
coming from it. I took the pully off and inspected it
and it seemed fine put it back on and still makes
noise. The noise goes away when I spray the belt
and its wet. Do you think its the pully and should I
just replace it and the belt?

Check all the pulleys, including (and especially) the AC pulley. I've had more trouble with that then with idlers or tensioners. But if you suspect the idler, then by all means replace it, it's not that expensive, and if it's been a while since the belt was replaced then it couldn't hurt to do that too. An ounce of prevention as they say.
