My 204 Ford Escape won't unlock (fob and key don't work)

Asked by brownsteindl Feb 22, 2015 at 08:42 PM about the 2004 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The last time I entered my car, I used the metal key to get in, and then locked the car
using the door lock button (the one that locks all doors) inside the door.

The battery on m fob was week.

I just tried to get into my car.  When I use the fob, the car has no response.  When I use
the key, I can feel something engage in the door, but I can't open it.

By using the key and then locking the car with the button that locks all the doors, did I
create a situation where I can only re-enter with the fob?  Or is something broken?

Thanks,

PS:  It's not frozen.  It was warm here today.

Hi. I just had the same situation in my 2014 Ford Escape. Batteries were new in fob. Car battery is fully charged. Neither fob nor metal key would work ( only one keyhole on driver door). Finally called a locksmith as dealership was not helpful. He could not believe the metal key would not work. He finally " broke in" to the car. Everything else was fine.

I found my problems was the USB charger. I had left it in the cigarette lighter. As soon as I unplugged it the fob worked.
