Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '02 vw jetta gls 1.8t won't start. I have replaced
water pump, fuel pump, coil packs, spark plugs, ful
line, and retimed it. My mechanic is even stumped
as to what could be wrong. I have full tank of gas
and it gets sparks. He has timed it and quadruple
checked it over and said he can't figure it out!
Please can anyone help!?!?

Spark, gas and compression. A good mechanic starts on one of these three and narrows it down. Is it getting gas? You said it had spark. Fuel pumps are known to be bad out of the box.

He says its getting fuel. He said its getting fuel and sparks. He says he sure the timing is right and has checked numerous times. Compression check will tell me what?

Also the puel pump was replaced months ago, so its been driving fine. And before the water pump was replaced it ran fine, just overheated.

Compression? Blown gasket, blown head gasket, cracked block, internal passages running together that should not. Oil and coolant compartments now flowing together. Have a compression check done. Leak down test also.
