2011 Dodge Charger, over 200k highway miles, LIKE NEW condition. 8k, worth it?

Asked by Jay Dec 14, 2017 at 09:09 PM about the 2011 Dodge Charger R/T Max AWD

Question type: General

So I've recently fallen in love with the 2011-2014 model of Dodge Chargers, and I found one that's in LIKE NEW condition.

*5.7L Hemi with new cam, timing chain, heads were redone, new head gaskets, exhaust manifolds with new studs, etc -- over $4k in work to top part of engine
*New Tires, Brakes and Rotors all the way around
*AWD
*1-Owner
*Custom things I like (Premium Black Rims, Tinted Windows, etc)
*All the bells and whistles of that year
*Mostly highway miles driven
*In SUCH Great shape, looks and sounds like new.
*Never been in an accident, clean carfax.
*Properly maintained at Dodge Dealership throughout its life

Worth it? I plan on keeping this car for the long haul anyway, just wanted some opinions.

It's still 200K miles. It's also on the high side for the BB value. Top end of motor may have been rebuilt, still leaves the bottom end with all those miles on it, as well as tranny. I think I'd at least run a borescope in the combustion chamber or run a leakdown test on piston rings. Review everything that is at or past its service life. Ultimately it's your money, as long as you are thorough in checking out vehicle you hopefully won't have any surprises.

DON'T DO IT! If I had a dollar for every Hemi Charger we've had in the shop for oil leaks around 50k - 100k miles, I'd be rich. I can only imagine how worn out that 5.7 Hemi is after 200k miles. It's a Dodge, not a Toyota. It's your call, but personally I wouldn't go within 100 feet of that thing. As was mentioned above, the top end was rebuilt but the bottom end has GOT to be going soon.

I own this car, have had it for over a year now and haven't had a single problem with it. It starts up great, drives great. The only things I've had to do to it is change the pads, rotors, emergency brakes, outer tie rod ends, and front cv shafts. Other than that it's been nothing but general maintenance. Even got it up to 130 mph and it didn't skip a beat until the governor kicked in.
