Used car purchases are usually AS IS. I assume you didn't get a warranty? That's why it is wise to have a mechanic look the car over before purchase. I am glad you got it sorted and safe to drive again. Post a review of the dealer on yelp or other online review site

Used car purchases from private sellers are considered As-Is, but by law, car dealers must provide a warranty with all cars not specifically marked as As-Is. That's why Used Car dealers often provide just a 30 day warranty..... If this is an actual safety or emissions issue, you should have the dealer cover this. Tell him you'll report him to the California Bureau Of Automotive Repair in the state Attorney General's office. If this doesn't work, prepare a claim for small claims court.

On a 10 year old vehicle? Don't bother. It's up to the buyer to inspect the vehicle before you buy it! You can report them but it won't do you any good. The vehicle probably came from the auto auction and the Dealer didn't know any more about it than you did. Jim
