2000 durango suv engine starts putinto drive rolls backwards parked on incline driveway

bought suv drove for few days no noises no slipping drove great everything working order
as far i knew then backed in driveway parked next day start it up put into drive will not
move other then roll backwards due to driveway inclines  would engine start and not move
due to very low fuel ? is there security type issue that could cause not to drive eventhough
engine starts? what could be wrong?
