My car just overheated and heater was not working in car, what could this be?

heater in car blowing cold and temperature guage reading hot. This just started today

Thermostat might be bad, and coolant levels are low. Thermostat could be preventing what coolant you have from circulating properly and the heater core might now have an air bubble. Try changing it and bleeding the system. If the problem persists you should take a look at the water pump.

Turns out it was a broken hose that caused car to overheat with no heat inside cabin.
