Hi Everyone, I have a 2002 300M, will a crack in the head gasket cause air to seep into the cooling system causing the temp gauge to go up and down without the car actually overheating ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

had car serviced at shop. Replaced thermostat, water pump, timing belt.
Temp gauge will go up slightly and back to 1/2 way mark. Car doesn't over
heat and heater in car blows hot air. When I turn on heat and set on Hi temp
on gauge comes down. System has been bleed for air entrapment. Would a
cracked head gasket cause air to leak into cooling system causing problem?
