A ticking noise can be a couple things, but a common issue with the 4.6 engine (no matter a Mustang or other type vehicle) is a blown out exhaust gasket. I've had this happen on my '06 GT and Mercury Mountainer. Both on the passenger side. The factory gaskets are pretty cheaply made. It could also be a sticking lifter. Either way, you might want to have someone check it out for you.
